The voatsiperifery pepper or wild pepper has an earthy, warm taste with fruity aromas of lemon and cardamom. Voa' means fruit in Malagasy and 'tsiperifery' is the name of the plant. The whole peppercorns have a pleasant sharpness, less pungent than ordinary black pepper. The exclusive, aromatic voatsiperifery pepper is very popular with Western top chefs, especially in French cuisine.

The voatsiperifery pepper grows wild in the jungle in Madagascar. The locals pick the pepper berries by hand and let them dry naturally in the sun. The voatsiperifery pepper is very rare and the production is limited. This makes it a very exclusive pepper. Use
