A lot of starch for strong binding properties
Plantain flour naturally contains a lot of starch. Starch binds fluids in your dishes and gives food a firmer texture. You need up to 40% less flour when you use plantain flour as a substitute for regular flour in recipes. It gives a firm, yet elastic texture.
Naturally Gluten-free flour of green plantanis
Our plantain flour is a fine powder of dried green plantains. Green plantains are unripe. In this phase they are most suitable to be processed into flour. We peel, cut and dry the plantains and then grind them into flour. The result is pure plantain flour with a neutral taste and firm texture. Naturally free of gluten and additives.
What are plantains
Even though plantains are related to regular bananas, they are very different. We know bananas as a sweet piece of fruit, whereas plantains are naturally enjoyed as vegetables in a.o. South America and Africa. Plantains have a neutral taste and firm texture. This is in contrast to to soft, sweet bananas. Plantains also contain more starch and less moist than regular bananas. This way plantains give firmness to dishes, while sweet bananas give a moist, soft texture.
Use
Plantain flour is a healthy and naturally gluten-free alternative for regular flour. Use this flour in batter for biscuits, pie, cake and other baked goods. Or make delicious sweet or savoury pancakes with plantain flour!
