  • Genmaicha Tea: The popcorn tea

This is a popular everyday tea from Japan. It is the ideal drink for people who are not so used to the taste of tea and like to alternate with a cup of coffee.

Traditionally, roasted rice is used in Genmaicha tea. We also use puffed rice because it looks more appealing. So you will see roasted and some puffed rice grains.

The grains give Genmaicha tea a slightly toasted touch, which is why they sometimes call it the popcorn tea.

Grown on the rich volcanic soil in Kagoshima

The tea leaves for our genmaicha grow on rich volcanic soil in Kagoshima (a province in southern Japan). The altitude of the tea gardens on the mountain and the rustic process of adding organic puffed rice to the tea creates a distinctive nutty aroma in the tea.

    Authentic Japanese Flavor Experience

The tea leaves are dark in color. They are steamed to prevent oxidation, which also has the benefit of giving Genmaicha tea a typical umami flavor.

The tea itself takes on a golden yellow color once it enters your cup. Our Genmaicha tea has a strong aroma of toasted rice and vegetal notes. The taste is a nice combination of umami, the same vegetal notes, and a hint of sweetness and nuts. This tea contains caffeine.

    Passionate for a better taste

This is a typical Pit&Pit product. We work with a small family business that is absolutely passionate about Japanese green tea. They process everything themselves and work with teas from Kyoto, Shizuoka, and Kagoshima. You will notice their passion and knowledge in the refined taste of Genmaicha tea.

Moreover, this Genmaicha tea is also entirely from organic farming. So you can be sure to enjoy the pure taste of nature.

    Genmaicha Green Tea Brewing

Due to the presence of roasted grain, you may brew this tea a little hotter than you are used to with green tea. Genmaicha can tolerate 90 degrees. Use 2 grams per cup or 11 grams per liter. Letting it steep for 60 to 90 seconds is sufficient for a potent cup of tea.

    Ingredients

Green tea (37%), brown rice, sticky rice. All from organic farming.
