Boboti is a traditional South African dish, often considered a national dish. It consists of seasoned minced meat, usually beef or lamb, which is mixed with onions, garlic, spices such as curry powder and apricot jam, then fried with an egg-white and milk coating on top. So feel free to call it a South African curry and a reflection of different culinary influences coming together in one country.

Our boboti spice mix is made to order. All ingredients are organic and extra finely ground. Because it is a proprietary recipe, the mix is salt-free, with no additives or flavor enhancers. Pit&Pit prefers the pure taste of real spices. This blend has a complex character including fenugreek, curry leaf and cinnamon in the mix.

Usually it is served with rice as a side dish and a generous spoonful of sambal as a topping, but you can also make boboti as a typical casserole with a layer of baked potatoes underneath. The basic ingredients of boboti are minced meat, garlic, onion, raisins, apricot jam or chutney, bread, milk and egg and bay leaf. Our spice mix completes the list. A vegetarian version can be made by replacing the minced meat with lentils, seitan or naked oats. Also delicious with apples or mashed banana.
