The ideal sourdough jar for making your own sourdough starter

Do you like to bake your own sourdough bread? Then you also make your own sourdough starter. You can do that with the handy starter cultures from our assortment and with this sourdough jar. In fact, you need a glass jar to make and store your starter in. And this jar has a lot of extra handy features.

All-in-one sourdough jar

This sourdough jar helps you through all the steps of making a successful sourdough starter. The glass jar (900m) is high quality and hugely versatile, as the goblet:

  • measures your starter

  • ferments your starter

  • stores your starter

  • With a built-in fermentation timer that reminds you of feeding times.

So you can closely monitor the progress of the starter culture. And then store the product as well. The kit comes with a handy screw-on lid for storage in the refrigerator, with a measuring spoon. And on the side of the glass cup you will find all the measurement units. The parts are also made of environmentally friendly bio-plastic.

Make your own sourdough culture

Here's how to make your own starter with this sourdough cup:

  • Add 30 ml of flour and 25 ml of water. Mix with a clean spatula or spoon.

  • Cover and let stand for 48 hours.

  • Add 30 ml flour and 25 ml water again and mix.

  • Cover and let stand for 24 hours.

  • Pour away half of the substance and feed the rest again with 30 g of flour and 25 ml of water. Mix together.

  • Cover and let stand for 24 hours.

  • Repeat the previous step every day for seven days until the starter is formed.

The handy timer tells you when it's time to feed your starter during the process. A brightly colored rubber band indicates where the starter started. This allows you to see at a glance when the starter has doubled in size, and is ready to use.

TIP: Always work with clean equipment to prevent unhealthy bacterial growth. Sterilizing everything briefly with boiling water before use should suffice.
