We traveled all over Italy looking for the very best tomato passata, by Pit&Pit standards - and we ended up at Marco's place. In the region of Piacenza, Marco cultivates tomatoes on a limited area, with passionate enthusiasm, the very healthiest tomatoes in the open air - and he also processes them himself into tomato products such as passata and concentrato in a completely private facility.

Handy at home: ready-made pasta sauce basil organic
From our Pit&Pit tomato paste we make pasta sauce basil. Ready-made, but just as healthy. Basil makes for an aromatic Italian pasta sauce. Typically the sauce is made for spaghetti and linguine, but of course any pasta shape will do. We use the typical green-grassy extra virgin olive oil for a delicate flavor.
All ingredients from organic and biodynamic cultivation, without monoculture
All our tomato and pasta sauces are from organic cultivation, so without the use of artificial fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. Marco, however, goes quite a step further: throughout his production, he uses the principles of biodynamic agriculture: a holistic approach to farming. It induces spirituality in the process of growing food. In biodynamic farming, the main emphasis is on working the soil naturally, because the soil is essential to the quality of the product, not the farming itself.
No mono-culture, then: the products grown on the land of this farm are not only tomatoes, but also vegetables and grains.
Together with green manure crops, this makes for an enormously effective seasonal crop rotation. The properties of the soil remain intact, ensuring stable quality without depletion.
In short: Marco insists on conducting only 1 tomato harvest cycle per year, with harvest as late as possible in the summer-at the rhythm of the seasons. From that harvest we make passata, concentrate and now pasta sauces.
Pasta sauce basil - without additives
This pasta sauce 'Basil' contains 87% pure sun-ripened tomatoes for a deep tomato flavor and seasonings such as onion, carrots, celery, olive oil and, of course, basil. The salt content also remains limited. Furthermore, this sauce contains no flavor additives or preservatives.
Use basil pasta sauce - just heat up and ready
Pasta sauce basil is widely used in Italian home cooking. This sauce is convenient and ready for immediate use. Just reheat and ready.
This pasta sauce with basil lends itself very well to a veggie pasta. Combines naturally with burata and mozzarella. Serve with some extra olive oil.
