We put together a box of basic ingredients that deserve a sweet spot in any BBQ rub. To experiment, mix and taste for yourself.

You get a nice box with 7 spices and handy spice grinder:

    • Paprika edelsüss: a sweet Hungarian bell pepper variety with soft sweet and mild flavor grown in Spain.

    • Himalayan salt fine: a salt with refined and mild taste from Pakistan, without processing. The grains are just slightly larger than table salt.

    • Celeriac seed: pure natural with a delicious aroma.

    • Chili powder: for some extra heat and heat on your grill. 30,000 - 45,000 SHU (Scoville).

    • Cumin seed ground: a nut-peppery flavor with aromatic fragrance.

    • Ceylon cinnamon powder: a wonderful warm flavor as a seasoning in your rub.

    • 7-pepper blend: an exclusive blend of 7 peppers that already contains broken pepper balls and can be made really fine with the spice grinder - perfect for a rub.

    Recipe: flavorful basic rub

The basic rub is a simple dish, but you have endless possibilities to add your own touch to this recipe.

You take our fine Himalayan salt, the 7-pepper blend and our edelsüss sweet paprika. For the pepper, you can use the spice grinder to make it a little finer. With a real rub also comes a sugar. We recommend coconut blossom sugar in the rub. A healthier version of caster sugar. Mix thoroughly to distribute all the ingredients well.

Our coconut blossom sugar can be found on the shop here : https://nl.pit-pit.com/products/kokosbloesemsuiker-bio

    Variations:

    • For the Spanish rub replace the sweet paprika with smoked paprika.

    • For the Tex-Mex version add chili powder, cumin powder, oregano and cocoa to the base rub. Mix again to mix everything well.

    • For the West Indian rub add onion powder, garlic powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and cayenne powder to the base rub. Mix thoroughly to distribute all ingredients well.

    Tips:

Before grilling or smoking, sprinkle the rub over the food just as you would use salt and pepper.

For more intense flavors, use the rub several hours or even a day in advance to marinate and flavor the meat.

This basic rub can be used for pork, beef, chicken or even a hearty fish such as salmon

Store the rubs in sealable jars in a cool and dark place. They will keep for several months, allowing you to enjoy deliciously seasoned meat all summer long.
