  • Cape coffee: 'the cleanest coffee in the world'.

All around the equator is where our coffee is grown. And that coffee typically makes its way to our shores in mega container ships. A journey with a hefty footprint.

Not so with Cape coffee. Cape coffee travels by sailboat across the ocean. On wind power, currents and heroic man/woman strength of the crew. 100% natural energy.

From Santa Marta to Amsterdam. And back again.

"Cape Coffee" is named after "Cape of Green Hope". A sustainable port in Amsterdam, located in the heart of the lively NDSM wharf. There, zero-emission - wind-powered - ships are welcome to load and unload. It's the same way with our Cape coffee. Sailboats load Colombian coffee in the port city of Santa Marta and bring the beans to Amsterdam. Five to six weeks one way for the very cleanest coffee.

Organic fair trade coffee from a cooperative of women farmers

The Cape coffee bean is grown organically in Colombia's Sierra Nevada Natural Park. The plantations in the mountains are scattered at altitudes between 700 and 1600 meters, at temperatures between 18 and 29 degrees. These are very nice conditions for very high quality coffee beans. The cultivation is certified organic by European standards, without the use of chemical sprays or the use of artificial manure.

The farmers are paid fairly so that they can build a future, secure in the face of adversity, with children who can go to school.

Soft Cape coffee: medium roasted in Holland

Our Dutch coffee roaster has roasted 2 version of the Cape coffee beans: a medium roast and a dark roast.

This Medium Roast Cape coffee brings you a clean flavor balance that is wonderfully expressed due to the mild roast. Less bitter than its dark roast sister.

Because the beans are roasted shorter, they retain more of their natural sweetness. The result is a smooth flavor profile with notes of chocolate and nuts.

Delicious coffee with a story of integrity: that's what we like to put our shoulders to at Pit&Pit

Cape coffee is a beautiful, fair, ecological and pure product with a heartwarming story. Dutch funding has embraced the women farmers and made the entire ecological project possible.

In cooperation with our Dutch coffee roaster, we are happy to put our shoulders under this product. On both sides of the border!
